Sometimes I daydream of a solitary life, high up in a garret room, surrounded by faded floral wallpaper, stacks of books, and creaky wooden floors. In reality, I live in a suburban tract house, happily surrounded by my wonderful husband and my two
Reading: Like most born English majors, I'm an underemployed lover of all things bookish. I miss the file card system at libraries, and don't quite understand the need for e-readers. (This last makes me a minority, both in my house, and the world beyond.) I have an MFA in Creative Writing, and used to be devoted to the reading and writing of short stories. These days, my creative output is here on blog, and on the yellow legal pads where I'm slowly writing a memoir. One of the top thrills in life is stumbling upon a book, a line, or a metaphor that expands and illuminates the world. When that happens, I share it here with you.
Nesting. In junior high, I dreamed of wallpapering my room with faux brick, and plastering it all over with posters of old Broadway shows. As a teenager in the 80s, I covered a wall in my bedroom with black wrapping paper printed with neon pink flamingos (an homage to Miami Vice). All to explain that I've been rearranging furniture and fine-tuning my surroundings for literally decades. These days, I'm focused on injecting warmth and personality into our newish, builder-grade home with bright colors, vintage ceramics and too much Ikea.
Roaming: I'm happiest riding shotgun on a roadtrip to anywhere, bopping along to my mix of cheesy AM Gold hits. I'm proud to be a 3rd generation California native. I've travelled widely up, down and across The Golden State, and sometimes even get to leave it and explore the wider world beyond. Travel fills my dreams, shapes my plans and fuels the future. I'm happy to take you along for the ride.
LIFE: Love, family, kids. Dreams, music, literature. Design, décor, memories. Travel. Books, and decorating with books. Welcome to the Reading Nest.
